METRAVON MV-LC0234 is a low-profile compression load cell for assemblies where sensor height is a controlling dimension. Its body is 3.9 mm high, while the loading button brings the overall height to 4.5 mm. Neither figure includes the surrounding support, a load spreader or any mechanical stop required by the machine.
How much space does a low-profile compression load cell need?
Reserve the complete stack height, not only the sensor thickness. A flat support must carry the base without rocking, and the moving member must press on the central button without touching the surrounding surface. The drawing shows a 20 mm body diameter, a 5 mm button and four M2.5 fixing holes on a 16.5 mm pitch circle. Confirm screw engagement and installation access against the selected drawing.
Thin geometry does not mean identical performance
This model lists nonlinearity, hysteresis and repeatability separately at +/-0.2% Cn each. A physically taller 1 mV/V sensor is not necessarily equivalent in those characteristics. When comparing quotations, keep height, rated force, zero balance and error specifications in separate columns rather than treating the output sensitivity as a performance grade.
| Item | Value | Use / fit |
|---|---|---|
| Force ratings | 50, 100, 200, 500 N; 1, 2 kN | No 5 kN option is listed for this model. |
| Overall / body height | 4.5 / 3.9 mm | Include the button and external loading parts in the stack-up. |
| Nominal sensitivity | 1 mV/V; +/-10% | Approximately 5 mV at rated force with 5 V excitation, before tolerance. |
| Zero balance | +/-0.05 mV/V | Allow input headroom for zero adjustment and fixture preload. |
| Creep | +/-0.05% / 30 min | Consider hold duration when defining the test procedure. |
| Reference / operating excitation | 5 V / 1-15 V | Not a built-in industrial voltage output. |
| Material / ingress rating | Stainless steel / IP67 | Check cable and connector exposure separately. |

Prevent the fixture from bypassing the button
Check clearances with the machine unloaded and under the largest intended compression. Retaining parts must not create a second load path around the sensing element. If an overload stop is needed, its gap and stiffness require fixture design; the catalogue overload figures do not supply a universal stop setting. Do not tighten fasteners by pressing through the active contact.
Specify the reader and the acceptance test together
The output is an unamplified bridge signal. Use a load-cell reader or conditioner whose excitation, millivolt input and calibration adjustment cover this model. Test the assembled fixture with the final contact and cable supports in place, recording zero return and repeated loading. Set the acceptable limits from the measurement task before ordering rather than using an unrelated scale accuracy claim.
Where a 4.5 mm sensor envelope is unnecessary, compare the standard-height MV-LC0233 compression load cell and check the complete stack height.
Questions before ordering
Q1. Can the body sit in a shallow recess?
A recess is only suitable if it supports the intended base and leaves the loading button and cable free from unintended contact. Submit the recess section and tolerance stack for review; a nominal 4.5 mm pocket depth alone does not define a workable mounting.
Q2. Is this a thinner drop-in replacement for MV-LC0233?
Do not assume interchangeability. MV-LC0234 has a different height, stops at 2 kN in the listed rating options and has different nonlinearity, hysteresis and repeatability figures. Compare the fastening geometry and recalibrate the completed assembly if a change is approved.
