The METRAVON MV-LC0242 three-axis force sensor has different axial and lateral ratings: the catalogue designations are Fx 1 t, Fy 1 t and Fz 3 t. Its nominal output is also axis-dependent. This makes channel configuration part of the product selection, especially when a fixture applies a large axial load while the test records smaller lateral components.
Set each channel's sensitivity and engineering scale
Fx and Fy are listed at 2.0 mV/V, while Fz is listed at 1.2 mV/V. A common excitation voltage does not make the three electrical spans equal. Enter the applicable calibration for each channel and agree the reported force units; the t labels in the capacity listing should not become an undocumented conversion in the control software.

| Item | Listed data | What to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Lateral ratings | Fx: 1 t; Fy: 1 t | Provide the lateral loads that occur at the same time as the axial load. |
| Axial rating | Fz: 3 t | Include fixture tare and the largest axial transient in the application review. |
| Nominal output | Fx/Fy: 2.0; Fz: 1.2 mV/V | Configure and verify three independent calibration scales at the receiving system. |
| Excitation and connector | 5-12 V DC; 12-pin | Obtain the delivered pinout before selecting the cable and conditioner connections. |
| Non-linearity | +/-0.2% of Cn | Agree the complete measurement error allowance for the actual load combinations. |
| Operating environment | -20 to +70 deg C; IP65 | Check the connector, enclosure and thermal conditions at the installed position. |
Design the adapter around the sensor coordinates
The dimensioned drawing includes locating features and mounting holes on the cylindrical assembly. Identify the loaded interface, supporting interface and positive axes before machining an adapter. Reserve access to the side connector and prevent cable restraint from adding an unintended load.
An offset fixture can produce a moment even when the intended measurement is a force. State the load application point and its distance from the sensor reference. Obtain the permissible combined-load conditions rather than using the higher Fz rating to approve every mechanical load case.
Channel setup and replacement questions
Q1. Can all three channels use one gain setting?
The different nominal sensitivities require separate scaling. At an illustrative 10 V excitation, the nominal rated outputs are 20 mV for Fx/Fy and 12 mV for Fz. These electrical calculations do not replace each channel's calibration or define system accuracy.
Q2. Can it replace the square MV-LC0240 sensor?
Both measure three force components, but their mounting geometry, capacities and nominal sensitivities differ. Compare the MV-LC0240 specifications, adapter drawings and acquisition configuration before considering a substitution. A common 12-pin description does not establish a drop-in connection.
Q3. What does the acceptance test need to demonstrate?
Apply known loads in the required directions and record the response of every channel, including channels not intentionally loaded. Check axis identity, polarity, return to zero and the final values stored by the data system. Agree any combined-load and coupling tests before ordering when they affect the usable result.
Send the fixture section, load vector and offsets, operating cycle, required units and existing acquisition hardware with the quotation request. Specify the cable assembly, calibration records and any compensation software expected at delivery.
