Match the RTU to the Field Signal List
An RTU sits between field instruments and the remote monitoring system. Prepare an I/O schedule that separates analog inputs, digital inputs, pulse or rainfall inputs, relay outputs and serial devices. Then confirm polling intervals, local storage, alarm behavior, communications, power availability and the protocol expected by the control center.

Commission Every Channel and Failure State
- Compare the approved I/O list with terminal assignments, sensor ranges, engineering units and serial addresses.
- Apply a known value or simulator to every analog channel and operate each digital, pulse and relay point that is part of the project.
- Verify local records, timestamps, alarm thresholds and the values received by the remote platform.
- Interrupt communications and power to confirm storage, retransmission and restart behavior required by the project.
For quotation, provide the complete signal list, sensor output types, serial protocols, reporting interval, alarm and control requirements, power and enclosure conditions, communications available at site and the destination system. If the main task is connecting several PLCs or converting protocols between plant networks and a server, compare the industrial IoT gateway route as well.
