METRAVON OEM and customization: freeze technical boundaries first, then enter samples and batches
METRAVON can evaluate OEM or custom needs around radar level gauges, level switches, load cells and modules, weighing indicators, industrial gateways, RTUs and remote I/O. The scope of discussion includes independent models, nameplates and packaging, housing or process connections, cables and connectors, outputs and communications, parameter presets, software interfaces and data languages. Not all modifications are applicable to all products and are ultimately subject to engineering review, sample verification and order technical attachments.
Mature OEM projects do not change labels, but clearly spell out brand, technology, quality, compliance and customer protection at the same time. METRAVON recommends first distinguishing between four levels of standard product private labeling, option combinations, light engineering modifications and in-depth development, and then determining the minimum order quantity, sample cycle, verification cost, intellectual property and change management respectively.
Things most commonly missed in OEM projects
- If the model is not independent, end customers can directly check the original manufacturer and price, and channel protection cannot be implemented.
- Only the appearance is confirmed, internal hardware, firmware, key materials, parameter ranges and certification impacts are not frozen.
- After the sample is passed, substitute materials or version changes occur in the batch, but there is no change notification and re-verification mechanism.
- Inconsistent use of instructions, nameplates, packaging and certificates may cause risks in customs clearance, bidding, installation or after-sales.

Proposed process from inquiry to mass production
- Requirement input: Submit target market, application conditions, estimated quantity, target price, certification, brand and delivery requirements.
- Feasibility review: Confirm which requirements are met by standard options and which will change structure, performance, certification or software.
- Technical and commercial freeze: Formulation of specifications, variance lists, sample fees, minimum order quantities, tooling or development fees and plans.
- Sample verification: Perform appearance, function, process condition, communication, installation and document review; add on-site trials for complex projects.
- Gold samples and mass production: Both parties keep confirmation samples or confirmation records, compare the first batch with the gold samples, and change must be notified in writing.
- Life cycle management: stipulates the effective conditions for spare parts, firmware upgrades, discontinuation notices, defect handling and customer protection.
Suggested deliverables to be written into the OEM agreement
- Independent model rules, nameplate drawings, packaging layout, instructions and data sheet versions, and manufacturing information that is allowed to be disclosed.
- Key specifications and tolerances, test items, sampling ratio, qualification determination and sample sealing or electronic confirmation methods.
- Customer and territory protection scope, inquiry transfer principles, price boundaries, confidentiality requirements and exceptions.
- Certification responsibilities, trademark authorization, intellectual property ownership, design change notifications, quality abnormalities and recall responsibilities.
FAQ
What is the minimum order quantity?
There is no uniform quantity that applies to all products. Standard private labels usually have lower thresholds. Structure, firmware or new certifications will significantly increase the quantity and cycle, and should be evaluated on a specific model basis.
Can I use METRAVON stand-alone models?
Independent model requirements can be made, and nameplates, packaging, information and after-sales identification rules can be confirmed at the same time; whether manufacturing information is completely hidden is also subject to regulations and certification mark requirements.
How to control batch consistency after sample confirmation?
Freeze key specifications, firmware and label versions, retain gold samples or electronically signed samples, and perform comparisons in the first batch; any changes that affect functionality, certification or appearance must be reconfirmed.
Can the Modbus register or platform protocol be customized?
Can be evaluated based on device hardware and firmware conditions. You need to provide the I/O list, data type, byte order, read and write permissions, exception code, polling cycle and target platform test environment first.
