A water level meter price may cover only the instrument, while the project requires a surveyed datum, mounting works, power, communications and accepted data. Separate those responsibilities early. Otherwise, two offers can appear comparable while leaving different parts of the station for the owner to supply.
Define the station deliverable
METRAVON MV-RD12T measures water level from above the surface using radar. It is an atmospheric-service option with alternative electrical configurations. Specify the actual low- and high-water distances and installation exposure before selecting the version.
Decide whether the contract ends at an instrument output, an RTU record or a value delivered to a monitoring platform. State the required update interval, timestamp treatment and response to missing measurements. An RS485 interface does not include a modem, a subscription or an operating data service.

For remote power, ask for the chosen instrument's operating-current and timing information. Include the RTU and communications equipment in the calculation. Do not infer station battery life from a low-power product option or quote a service interval without the duty cycle and storage assumptions.
Account for the second site visit
Ask who returns if the first installation cannot be verified at the required water condition. Access permits, traffic management or lifting arrangements may have to be repeated. Define these responsibilities without inventing a fixed allowance that ignores the site.
Request the bracket and reference dimensions in the handover record. If the mounting moves later, the configured offset may no longer represent the surveyed datum. Include access for inspection and a method to compare the station with an independent water-level reference.
Q1. Is a larger maximum range a reason to pay more?
Only when the site requires it and the selected version meets the near-distance and accuracy needs. A long-range label does not improve an installation whose normal surface lies too close to the antenna.
Q2. Can the existing RTU reduce the project cost?
Potentially, after confirming supply, terminals, protocol or analogue scaling, timing and fault handling. Request the exact electrical version and test the integration before treating reuse as a firm saving.

Request a water-level station quotation with a marked site photograph, required data endpoint and responsibility list. Compare the complete installed scope rather than the sensor subtotal alone.
