METRAVON supplies the TG463 industrial IoT gateway, which combines five Gigabit Ethernet ports with serial, analogue and digital connections. The product family includes 5G and 5G RedCap configurations, with four-port PoE offered as an option. It is a candidate for a mixed cabinet containing controllers, instruments and networked devices, where both physical connections and gateway-side data functions must be specified.
Separate the network, I/O and power schedules
Start with three lists: Ethernet devices and traffic, sensor and status signals, and equipment requiring power from the gateway. A camera's data port and its power demand are different requirements. Likewise, the presence of analogue inputs does not prove that each sensor receives loop power or that the inputs are isolated.
| Connection | Listed data | Design check |
|---|---|---|
| Ethernet | 1 Gigabit WAN + 4 Gigabit LAN | Confirm the port roles and required network functions for the delivered software. |
| PoE option | 4 ports | Obtain the PoE standard, per-port rating and total budget before selecting powered devices. |
| Serial | 1 RS232; 1 RS485 | Match electrical interfaces and protocol roles to the equipment connection schedule. |
| Inputs | 3 AI; 2 DI | Specify analogue ranges, input circuits and the status or fault meaning of each signal. |
| Relays | 3 outputs | Check contact ratings and load duty; provide external interfacing where the confirmed rating is insufficient. |
| Other I/O | USB; TF; 5 controlled power outputs | Verify usable functions, voltage and current limits, including any shared terminal restrictions. |
The nominal 5-35 V DC input range does not define the power supply needed for an optional PoE configuration. Ask for the complete supply specification with the selected loads. Do not treat a standard adapter description as a validated budget for powering several cameras.

Choose the cellular variant against an actual workload
Full 5G and RedCap should be specified as distinct module choices. Provide the required uplink traffic, response-time objective, country and operator, then confirm that the offered module and service support the application. Gigabit LAN ports describe the local links; they do not promise Gigabit cellular upload performance.
The product lists 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi capability and a 5.8 GHz option, subject to configuration. Dual-card or dual-module arrangements also need an explicit order. Test any backup policy at the application layer, including the time needed to resume useful communication after a change of route.
Confirm industrial drivers before assigning the gateway
Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC UA, PROFINET and PROFIBUS-DP appear in the published software list. The required role, physical connection and any external interface must be established for the particular protocol. An RS485 terminal is not, by itself, evidence that a delivered unit can act as the required PROFIBUS device.
Power-industry protocols, third-party drivers and cryptographic functions depend on firmware or project configuration. Obtain the implementation details and any required licences. Do not infer a compliance certificate, a complete PLC driver set or an enabled application from the base model name.
For local development, agree the Linux environment, APIs and deployment method. Benchmark the actual processing task alongside acquisition and reporting. A general statement about edge processing does not establish inference throughput or deterministic control behaviour.
Plan cabinet access and acceptance
Published dimensions are 206 x 127 x 48.3 mm. The IP30 metal housing is specified for -35 to +75 deg C and non-condensing conditions. Arrange ventilation, antenna cables and access to the terminal blocks; add suitable environmental protection where the surrounding installation is exposed.
During acceptance, verify every I/O point, each Ethernet device and the end-to-end reporting path. If PoE is supplied, test the intended powered-device combination within its confirmed budget. Repeat the required communications recovery tests while the normal acquisition task is running.
Configuration questions
Q1. Is PoE included on every TG463?
No. Four-port PoE is listed as an option. Put the required ports, supported standard and total load into the order, together with the corresponding power supply and cabling requirements.
Q2. Can the analogue inputs replace an RTU?
They may cover a small direct-input requirement if the input circuits and acquisition software match it. Compare channel count, conversion accuracy, logging and fault handling with the station requirements before removing a separate RTU from the design.
Q3. What should a mixed camera and instrument project test?
Check useful sensor reporting during representative camera traffic and any local processing. Network throughput alone does not show whether acquisition deadlines or retained records remain acceptable under the combined workload.
Provide the three schedules for review
Request a TG463 configuration review with network traffic, signal I/O and powered-device schedules. Add the selected cellular service, protocol roles and acceptance targets so hardware options and software obligations can be quoted separately.
