selection summary
MV-RD2480 is a radar canal flow meter, which is used mainly for open water body measurements with a reference range of 0.1-35 m and flow speeds of 0.10-25 m/s (relative to current conditions). It is suitable for river flow monitoring, channel flow monitoring, hydro- and environmentally friendly online flow stations and should be selected with a focus on checking the scale, temperature, connection, material, output and installation conditions.
Product overview
Non-contact radar canal flow meters, which simultaneously measure current speeds, water levels and calculate flows, apply to long-term online monitoring of rivers and channels.
Measurement principle
MV-RD2480 measures surface flow speed at 24 GHz radar, 120 GHz radar at water level, and calculates instant flow in conjunction with entered channel fault parameters. The results depend not only on sensor parameters, but also on the representativeness of the fault, the angle of installation and the calibration of the water level at zero points.
Core advantages
- Non-contact measurements, low maintenance
- Sync output flow, current speed and water level
- Support for Modbus-RTU and upper slot configuration
Usage scenarios
- River flow monitoring
- Channel traffic monitoring
- Water and environment online flow stations

Selection guide
- First, the shape of the face, the size of the channel, the regular water level and the extent of the flood level are identified and photographs of the site are provided.
- Identification of minimum/highest current speed, surface fluctuations, floats and conditions for the installation of bridges or supports.
- RS485 Modbus-RTU access mode, power distance, mine-protected site and data platform protocols are confirmed.
- Where trade settlements or statutory measures are required, the requirements for measurement applicability and calibration should be recognized separately.
Key points for installation and commissioning
- Sensors should respond to a quasi-representative surface, avoiding sudden currents, reflows, drops, gates and visible barriers.
- Enter real fault parameters and review water level zero; installation angles and heights need to meet the range of water level changes on site.
- Communications lines are placed separately from power lines and outdoor points are equipped with reliable ground, mine and waterproof links.
Procurement and Technical Confirmation Checklist
- Media name, density/dielectric properties, corrosiveness, and foam, vapor, dust, crystallization or material buildup.
- Container/channel dimensions, normal and extreme ranges, installation location, nozzle or bracket dimensions, internal components and on-site photos.
- Process temperature and pressure combinations, wetted materials, sealing, protection, explosion-proof areas and ambient temperature.
- Power supply, output protocol, wire system, display/commissioning method, control system interface and accessory requirements.
- It is recommended to check the arrival acceptance: nameplate model, process connection, measuring range, material, power supply output, explosion-proof certificate and random documents.
FAQ
What data can MV-RD2480 output at the same time?
MV-RD2480 provides simultaneous access to surface flow speeds, water levels and computing flows and is exported through RS485 Modbus-RTU. The flow value relies on recorded channel fault parameters.
What is the range and accuracy of MV-RD2480?
MV-RD2480 has a flow-rate range of 0.10-25 m/s (relative to water flow) and a water-level range of 0.1-35 m; the data give a flow accuracy of > 2% of the measured flow. Complex water-states should be validated by field comparison.
Why must it be provided with a channel profile?
The flow rate and water level are directly measured by MV-RD2480 and the flow needs to be calculated in conjunction with the area of the fault. Fragmentation, width, bottom height and Zero point filling errors directly cause systemic deviations.
What position should MV-RD2480 be avoided when installed?
The MV-RD2480 shall avoid falling water, the proximity of the gate, visible reflows, fast bends and long-term floating areas and ensure that sensors are directed to representative waters.
Can MV-RD2480 access the surveillance platform?
MV-RD2480 provides RS485 Modbus-RTU interfaces. The register, station number, Porter rate, power distance, mine-protected site and platform acquisition cycle are identified before access.
What information is required for the request for MV-RD2480?
Please provide information on the type and size of channel, constant and limit water levels, minimum/maximum current speed, site photographs, location of installation, power supply, communication distance and platform agreements.
