Single-point load cell price is meaningful only when quotations cover the same weighing duty. These cells are designed to compensate for off-centre loading over a stated maximum platform size, so capacity alone is not enough. Provide platform dimensions, mounting-hole pattern, dead load, weighing range, minimum increment, load distribution, filling dynamics and overload risk. State whether the application is a bench scale, checkweigher, filling machine or counting scale, because speed and settling requirements differ. Price varies with aluminium or stainless-steel construction, environmental sealing, approved accuracy class, temperature compensation, cable and connector, hazardous-area approval, calibration evidence and order quantity. A lower-cost cell that requires a new platform, amplifier or compliance test may increase total project cost. Compare the cell, mechanical interface, electronics, documents, delivery, replacement compatibility and after-sales calibration on one schedule.
Define the platform and load
State maximum platform length and width, support stiffness and loading area. The published platform limit is part of performance; a larger or flexible deck can increase corner error.
Include dead load, normal gross load, impact and credible overload. Select enough capacity for protection while retaining useful signal at the smallest required weight change.
Specify metrology
Define division size, repeatability, linearity, creep, temperature range and off-centre-load tolerance at the system level. Do not assume the data-sheet maximum error directly equals legal-for-trade performance.
If regulatory approval is required, identify the applicable certificate, number of intervals and complete indicator configuration. Verify that the exact variant is covered.
Compare materials and environment
Aluminium can suit protected dry equipment; stainless steel and higher sealing may be justified for washdown, corrosion or food processing. Confirm cleaning chemicals, drainage and cable-entry orientation.
Ingress ratings depend on correct installation. A sealed sensor still needs protected connectors, a drip loop and strain relief.
Include electronics and integration
Confirm rated output, excitation, input resistance, cable length and conductor colours. Define whether the price includes an amplifier, display, junction, PLC input or digital transmitter.
Check sample rate, filtering and settling time for dynamic filling or checkweighing. Slow display stability is not the same requirement as fast control performance.
Assess calibration and interchangeability
Ask what factory calibration, traceability and corner-load test are supplied. For replacements, confirm dimensions, rated output and sensitivity tolerance as well as capacity.
Plan installed calibration using traceable weights across the working range and representative platform positions. Record raw counts and as-left scaling.
Build a comparable commercial schedule
Separate standard cell price from special cable, connector, machining, certificate, tooling, minimum quantity and expedited delivery. Request lead time for both initial order and replacement.
Evaluate warranty, overload inspection, recalibration and obsolescence support. Total lifecycle cost matters more than the sensor line item alone.

Frequently asked questions
Why do equal-capacity cells have different prices?
They may differ in platform rating, metrology, material, sealing, approvals, calibration and delivery scope.
Can a higher-capacity cell replace a lower-capacity one?
Mechanically perhaps, but signal per unit load and system resolution usually decrease and must be checked.
What should accompany an RFQ?

Before approving a substitute, compare the full dimensional drawing rather than only the mounting-hole centres. Load introduction height, cable exit, corner-compensation direction and deck stiffness can change performance. For production equipment, keep the approved parameter set, spare-part code and a short replacement calibration procedure with the machine documentation. This reduces commissioning time and prevents an electrically compatible but mechanically unsuitable cell from entering service.
