Level probes can mean continuous transmitters, point switches or instruments intended to identify a liquid interface. These functions produce different information. An enquiry that specifies only probe length and tank height leaves the most important requirement unresolved.

Two thresholds calculated from one continuous signal do not create two independent sensing devices. Where a separate protective function is required, have the responsible designer define its independence and test requirements before combining duties.

Mark the mounting reference, required high and low positions, internals and a removal route. Distinguish total probe length from the usable measuring interval. Include the space above a tank where a rigid probe must be withdrawn; a probe that fits inside may still be impossible to service.
The METRAVON MV-RD701 is a continuous guided wave radar option. Its probe construction does not by itself establish point-switch independence, interface functionality or an unrestricted measuring zone along the entire probe.
Describe Contact Conditions Through the Whole Process Cycle
Record what touches the probe during production, washing and shutdown. Include deposits, moving solids, agitators and likely material bridges. The mechanical and chemical review should address these events, not just a clean sample at room temperature.
A contact measurement may be impractical where the probe is repeatedly struck, cannot be removed or cannot be cleaned without damage. In that case, reconsider the mounting position or a non-contact method instead of ordering a longer or stronger-looking probe without a load assessment.
Questions That Resolve an Incomplete Enquiry
Q1. Can a relay from a transmitter replace an existing level switch?
Compare the required switching duty, response, fault behaviour and independence. A compatible relay rating addresses the electrical connection but does not establish equivalent sensing or protection.
Q2. What is needed for an interface application?
Describe both phases, temperature, expected layer thickness and emulsions. Require confirmation that the offered electronics report the intended interface, then agree how it will be independently checked. Do not infer the function from the word radar.
