Available from METRAVON, the TG462 edge computing gateway is intended for multi-instrument acquisition with local operation. An 800 x 480 touchscreen is an order option, alongside serial ports, analogue inputs, digital inputs and relays. It is suitable for assessing a cabinet where technicians need to view measurements or adjust approved settings locally as well as send data to a remote system.
Define what the local screen must show and permit
List the required measurements, units, fault indications and permitted controls before ordering the touchscreen configuration. A display showing live values and a screen that allows configuration changes have different access and acceptance requirements. Identify who may change scaling, communications or output settings.
Confirm whether the required pages are supplied, configured as part of the project or developed by the integrator. Screen resolution alone does not define the user interface or included application. Test readability and operation at the intended mounting position, including cable access and cabinet-door clearance.

Allocate the field interfaces without counting shared functions twice
| Interface | Listed capacity | Wiring check |
|---|---|---|
| Serial | 4 RS232; 3 RS485 | Confirm usable simultaneous ports and any service or multiplexed functions on the delivered terminal drawing. |
| Analogue | 8 AI | Specify current or voltage ranges, sensor excitation and required signal isolation for each channel. |
| Digital | 4 DI; 4 relays | Obtain the circuit and load ratings before assigning contacts or driven equipment. |
| Ethernet | WAN + 10/100M LAN; 2-LAN mode | Check port roles and available speeds; do not assume Gigabit capability. |
| Field power | 5 controlled outputs | Verify voltage, individual current and total load limits independently of the relay specification. |
| Other ports | I2C, TTL, USB and TF | Confirm the accessible connectors, supported functions and electrical levels before connecting peripherals. |
Provide an instrument list with signal type and supply requirements. An eight-channel analogue count is not an input-accuracy specification, and a controlled supply output does not establish that every sensor can be powered directly. Resolve both before finalising the panel drawing.
Define the software delivery for local processing
The product describes a Linux environment with Python/C development and remote-update capabilities. Agree the operating-system version, APIs, libraries, build method and source-code responsibilities. Identify which protocol drivers and screen functions are included, and who will maintain the custom application after handover.
Modbus RTU/TCP, MQTT, OPC, HTTP and industry reporting functions are listed. Confirm the precise OPC implementation rather than silently treating the generic name as an OPC UA commitment. For environmental or energy reporting, give the required revision, field definitions and receiving endpoint.
Test acquisition while the local display and application are running. Verify the handling of a disconnected instrument, invalid values and an unavailable server. A local calculation should retain its units and revision so a later software change does not make historical values ambiguous.
Power, radio and cabinet conditions
TG462 has a published 9-35 V DC input range, which differs from some other gateways in the range. Its dimensions are 228 x 122.5 x 38.2 mm, with an IP30 housing and a stated -35 to +75 deg C non-condensing environment. Check the supply at the actual terminals and allow for the touchscreen and powered peripherals.
Choose the cellular module for the deployment country and operator. Wi-Fi and NB-IoT are options to confirm, not functions to infer from an enclosure photograph. The cabinet must provide the environmental protection absent from an exposed IP30 device, including control of condensation where required.
Local-operation questions
Q1. Is a touchscreen included in the base configuration?
The 800 x 480 touchscreen is described as an option. State whether it is required and what the operator must be able to view or change. Include the corresponding software pages and access controls in acceptance.
Q2. Can an existing application be copied onto the gateway?
Only after checking its runtime, dependencies, drivers and resource needs against the supplied environment. Agree deployment and rollback procedures, then test on the offered hardware with the actual instrument workload.
Q3. Is TG462 a substitute for a local safety controller?
No safety-controller capability is established by this product description. Keep protective actions within the appropriately assessed control system. Use the gateway for the acquisition and application functions that have been specified and verified.
Quote the local application as well as the hardware
Submit the TG462 I/O schedule and screen requirements, required calculations, protocol versions and remote destination. Include software ownership, updates and test procedures so the quotation distinguishes a hardware supply from a commissioned local application.
